About this listen

When Jim's big brother Jack is released from prison, the brothers - along with their broken father and Jack's menacing best friend - decide to charter an ocean fishing boat to celebrate Jack's new freedom. Once the small crew is far out to sea, however, a mutant species rises from the deep abyssal darkness to terrorize the vessel and its occupants. As the horror of their situation becomes clear, the small group must find a way to fend off the attack and somehow, someway, return to safety; but as the strange parasitic creatures overrun them, they must use more extreme - and deadly - measures to survive.

This short novel made a promising start, but it couldn't carry through and fizzled out.

Story wasn’t particularly original and felt like listening to one of a dozen creepypasta stories you may find on YouTube or a horror podcast. Glad I didn’t pay full price but enjoyed it enough to check out more of the author’s work. Narrator was good and made the story entertaining. Was one instance of bad editing though as he repeated a line.

Okay. Short and sweet.

I read the hype around this book, thought that’s absolutely for me but maybe it’s because it’s an audiobook I just couldn’t get into it. An hour in I stopped listening as there was a whole section about a games controller getting broken and I think two brothers fighting? The barnacles had caught my attention but then they went onto this for about 10 minutes. I didn’t gel with the characters and frankly couldn’t remember who was who at this point. I’ll maybe try a printed copy and see if it’s better for me.

Ok but slightly tedious
