About this listen

Filled with spicy summer fun, small-town charm, and Big Feelings, this highly anticipated romcom from the popular TikTok author is her best yet, perfect for fans of B.K. Borison and Sarah Adams.

Summer won't last forever.

Sage Byrd has lived in the coastal town of Spunes, Oregon (not to be confused with Forks, Washington) her entire life. She's learned to love her small world, with the misfit animals on her hobby farm, and her friendships with the town's inhabitants. But when her 5-year relationship ends and her ex, town-golden-boy Ian, suddenly gets engaged, Sage needs a win - something that will convince everyone to stop pitying her all the time, and to put Ian in his place. The Festival of Spunes, the town's annual summer competition, would be the perfect opportunity. She just needs a partner.

Fisher Lange was a hotshot chef in New York City until the loss of his sister left him numb, grieving, and responsible for his teenage niece Indy. When Fisher loses his Michelin star along with his love of cooking, his boss sends him and Indy to Spunes on a much-needed summer sabbatical to consult on a restaurant opening. But when clashes with the townspeople threaten his last chance to redeem himself and a kiss with his new neighbour Sage leads to dating rumours, a strategic alliance might just be the best way to turn things around.

A deal is struck. Sage will improve Fisher's image in the eyes of the town and remove the roadblocks he is facing with the restaurant, and Fisher will be Sage's partner for the competition. But as their pact quickly turns into steamy rendezvous, emotional wounds begin to heal, and the pair tries to savour every moment, they start to realize that summer is racing by much faster than they would like...

A refreshing little book, and super enjoyable. It manages to bypass all the standard misunderstanding tropes, which I'm very appreciative for, because they're ready to be put to pasture. Sage and Fisher had really good communication, and they came together in a lovely way, while being open and true to themselves. I loved them.

Very pleasantly surprised

I’ve listened to every one of Tarah’s books on audio and there’s just something about the wholesome heartfelt nature of her books that comes to life on audio and makes them some of the best I’ve listened to! Also any audio with Zachary Webber >>>

Sage was the star of this show!! Well Sage and all her animals if I’m honest 😂 Every animal had its own personality and they were brought it as part of the story and not just accessories, and it helped carve out Sage’s character. Her beautiful, kind and nurturing nature was exactly what Fisher and Indy needed and they couldn’t help but be pulled into her orbit. I adored her. Tarah writes the BEST female characters 🥹🥰 Fisher had a lot of changes in his life in a short space of time which would cause anyone to short circuit. Spunes gave him the freedom to reset, Sage gave him an outlet to find his spark again, and alongside Indy, they gave each other the opportunity to feel their grief and move forwards.

This is 100% a character driven book and the story flows around them. Sage, Fisher and Indy all had their own battles to fight, but they came together as a unit to support each other. The romance between Sage and Fisher was beautiful and so heartfelt, I couldn’t get enough!

Wholesome, heartwarming, it felt like getting a big hug every time I put it on. And definitely shed a few tears in the final chapters 🥹 I need this to be a series!!!

I love Tarah’s writing!

I adored Sage, how she would take on animals in her care, care for her garden and allotments. How she took control of her life.

I wanted to hug Fisher, after loosing his sister, he passion for cooking, I feel like he is relatable. He slowly becomes a better version of himself, for himself as well as Indy and Sage.

I think there is potential for more stories in this lovely small town.

I get Indy's reasonings behind her attitude, but she didn't need to so dismissive of Fisher when he was trying his best.

I wish ALL audio books are in duet narrations if there is a dual POV.

This book was beautifully written and deeply wholesome in the best way. I loved how grief was such a central theme—honoring the pain while also showing how to keep living and loving through it. The character development really stood out to me; every emotion felt earned and tender.

And can we talk about the audiobook for a second? 🎧 It was so well done. The narration added so much depth and emotion to the story—I truly don’t think it would’ve hit me as hard without listening. The voices brought the small-town charm and emotional moments to life in the most immersive way.

I cried… a lot. Like, “pause to wipe my tears” kind of cried for a solid chunk of this book, so take that as your warning. The small-town setting felt so alive—the community, the warmth, the way everyone showed up for each other was just gorgeous. And that epilogue? Absolutely wrecked me in the softest way possible.

If you love emotional, character-driven romance with heart, healing, and a strong sense of place, this one is worth savoring. 💛

Just beautiful
