Summary

Best-selling author Julia Quinn flawlessly combines passionate romance with "pitch perfect humor" ( Publishers Weekly).

Miranda Cheever has been blessed with many things, but great beauty is not among them. Still, when she meets Viscount Tuner, she knows she is meant for him. As the years go by, fate is as kind to Miranda as it is harsh on the Viscount. He's skeptical about love with good reason - but he may be falling for Miranda.

Almost gave up on this thanks to the narrator but glad I stuck with it. Great story (albeit with some problematic bits) but the banter between these two was so good, I binged it in one day!

Rough start but stick with it

I enjoyed this story as the main character, Miranda, was a different type to those I’ve met in Romance novels before. I enjoyed her asides.

The characterisation of Miranda

The story was well thought out and the emotion conveyed simply yet expressively! The narrator did a great job in differentiating between characters.

Simplicity

I didn’t enjoy this as much as many other Julia Quinn novels. The main reason being that there was no humour in this one at all. It could have done with more light hearted moments.
I found Miranda a bit too single minded in her insistence that Turner declare his love for her. It was obvious by his actions that he was slowly falling in love with her, to keep labouring the point was tiresome and if she really did love him as much as we were meant to believe, I think she would have been more patient.
There were some lovely moments though and overall entertaining.
I think I also prefer Rosalyn Landor as a narrator.

Good in bits

I've read most of the authors books from her earliest days in print. She is always dependable. Great characters, romances that grow and are "tested".
Always a teeny bit of British cursing. Strong females. Handsome heroes tainted by life.
Lust. Humour. Period accuracies. She researches brilliantly.
This title was a little different with more of an emphasis on inner soul searching rather than a challenging third person trying to do nefarious deeds.
Delightful hours of listening.
I did find the narrator pretty irritating but that has no bearing on the authors work. I chose to suffer her lack of intonation .
Would I recommend this audio? Yes

An engrossing listen.
