Summary

Daisy’s hero is Florence Nightingale, and she hopes to one day become a nurse just like her.

But as a girl growing up in the East End of London in 1912, it seems like all her future holds is dropping out of school to work a tough job in a factory for very little money.

From beginning to end I felt like I was there, reliving the era through Daisy and her family. An emotional roller coaster at times and I became attached to the family quite quickly. Wonderfully performed and cleverly written. Most memorable moment for me was when Mrs O'Doyle finally stood up for herself through the courage of her daughter Daisy's passion for women's rights. An ordinary family with fire in their hearts. Lots of historical references so effortly woven through the story. I look forward to sharing this with my class in the Autumn Term.

Absolutely wonderful read!

Daisy is a 12 year smart young girl inspired by the vibrant suffragette spirit and activities of her time. She directs her rebellion about the harsh role of women and has encounters both gritty and delightful adventures along the way. An engaging and worthwhile read or listening experience.
