About this listen

Jenna McGovern’s strappy shoes and sundresses are not going to cut it when she makes the move from Hollywood Hills to Blueberry Lake, Minnesota in the stone-cold dead of winter. A former stylist to the stars, Jenna’s determined to bring the latest red-carpet fashions back to the Midwest in an effort to revive her mother’s floundering thrift shop.

But when a difficult client is found dead hours after visiting the store from a high heel to the throat, she becomes the chief of police’s number-one suspect. If Jenna doesn’t clear her name quickly, she’ll not only lose the chance to style the biggest winter wedding Blueberry Lake has ever seen, but her mother’s thrift store will go under for good - and Jenna will be stuck flaunting the worst fashion of all time: a neon orange jumpsuit.

This is the third series of Gina LaManna’s that I have engaged in (Shoot The Breeze was the first novel in one, which was GREAT! Shades Of Pink was the other, which was quite dire - I didn’t progress beyond book 2)!
Now this one: it’s far, far better than the second series I attempted, but not as good as the first series, which is far superior to both (& I suspect far superior to ‘Sprinkled)!

This is a far more adult read. Which just goes to show how versatile Ms LaManna is as an author, she can write for YA as well as an older audience. This tale feels like a transitional series, straddling both genres in an embracing Cozy tale. Not heavy on character development - yet - but there is scope and hopes for that to develop in the next titles. This is really cozy reading with an interesting small town backdrop. I have high hopes for this series.

I acknowledge that I’ve said a great deal and yet told you nothing about the actual story: A transplanted Hollywood Stylist has relocated to Blueberry Hills. Ostensibly to help her mother breathe new life into her Thrift Store, but also to escape the very public/tabloid humiliation of being dumped by her boyfriend, who is now becoming a famous movie star.

She arrives in Minnesota , ill dressed for the winter weather, minus her 3 bags of luggage and becomes the only suspect in the homicide of a man that most of the town wants dead! The rest is Cozy…

Interesting first story in what will hopefully grow into an enjoyable Cozy Series
