Summary

Slightly unsatisfactory not for me as engaging as the author’s other books. Michael Kitchen is always a joy to listen to.

It was a new territory, as all Mr Goddard's books, I have listened to so far were without any supernatural element. This one is a bit different and I am not convinced it's a good thing, neither I am sure about narrator. I love Michael Kitchen as an actor however I am not sure if his voice composes well for this particular book.
Anyway, in general it is another good book from my favourite author and I enjoyed it even if I didn't find it as good as the books I listened to, before.

Like all Goddard's stories this had me hooked straight away and I didn't want to turn it off. Enough detail to put you in the place, especially as I have lived in Edith Weston and Stamford. Kitchen has a certain style in reading that appeals to me greatly. Overall a fantastic listen even though it is my second time! What else can I say there is a good chance I will return to it again along with all of his other books.

For me it was less to do with the paranormal and more about the complexities of the human psyche. The twists and plots in the other threads of the tale were intriguing and at times gripping. I could have throttled a few characters at times, which is always a sign of being engrossed🤨
