About this listen

Seven guests. Three courses. One evening they'll never forget…

Seven strangers meet at Serendipity's for an anonymously hosted dinner party. As the evening reaches its close, small black envelopes are placed in front of the diners… revealing the age at which each will die.

Spooked, but not wholly shaken, the group disperses into the rainy night with the hope of forgetting the ghoulish stunt.

But two weeks later, one dinner guest dies at the age foretold. Was it a tragic accident? Or something more sinister?

As the years go by, the other guests begin to die in line with the predictions given on that first night. And it's up to the remaining few to figure who, if anyone, was behind that dinner party before their numbers catch up with them too.

Told from the perspectives of the guests, Seven Reasons to Murder Your Dinner Guests balances mystery and mortality, asking: how would you live your life if you know your number was up?

Excellent

I really liked the performance, it saved the story. It borrows heavily from other mystery stories. It was obvious who the killer was and how they did it. So working them both out didn't require much thought.

Predictable

It definitely is not anything like Agatha Christie. Thought it would be a juicy murder mystery as the reviews were raving. Unfortunately the last 2-3 hours was when things started to get interesting. The story until then is incredibly tedious and all over the place. There was nothing that would grip a listener/ reader, nothing to hold your interest. I skipped forward on some parts in desperate attempt to find the reason why the reviews were so good. The ending, I must admit, is good but it's as if the author had a great idea and didn't know how to get to the best part. The whole book felt like filler, pointless rambling until the reveal of the idea. The narrator was absolutely brilliant.

Rather boring and disappointing

I loved it!. It was first rate from beginning to end. A murder mystery thriller full of unexpected twists and turns. Can't wait for her next book.

Excellent debut novel

Excellent story and beautifully narrated. The narrator brought so much to the telling, so brilliant at the different voices, bringing them to life, far above the caricatures and hamminess of some. I was genuinely intrigued and surprised at how the story went, no more needed. No spoilers here.
