Summary

When Carolyn Weber moved to Oxford University to study, she didn't expect to find God there. But she did. As she grappled with her newest and most important relationship, she also found that there was another invitation: to think bigger about love.

In this book we follow Weber through courtship and into marriage and parenthood. Now a literature professor, Weber reflects on her relationship with a sometimes-absent father and how that has shaped her. Through her personal story, as well as spiritual, theological, and literary reflection, Sex and the City of God explores what life looks like when we choose to love God first.

This memoir follows Carolyn Weber’s journey of faith, womanhood, and longing as she navigates the challenges of love, relationships, and academic life, always drawing the reader back to the source of true love: God.
As someone who has experienced heartbreak and relational disappointment, this book arrived like a gentle nudge back toward hope. Carolyn’s honesty, wit, and spiritual insight were both comforting and convicting. Her words felt like companionship in a time of reflection.

I’d recommend this to anyone feeling a little lost in the complexities of love, faith, or purpose.

It’s a book to return to, underline, and carry with you.

A balm for anyone navigating, love, faith and life.

This memoir is written as a follow up to the author's book, Surprised by Oxford. Weber picks up where she left off in Surprised by Oxford. She is now the Dean of Students at Oxford University. She is pursuit of God more than ever. She comes to a deeper understanding of God's all encompassing love for her and all of His children. Though she comes to the realization that she is in love with TDH (Tall, Dark, Handsome.), the author always puts her love for God first.

The text is beautifully written. Carolyn Weber writes with great intellect and great humour. As she dates more Caro Sex and the City of God than Carrie Sex and the City, the reader will laugh out loud at Caro's dating experiences. As her love life becomes more user friendly and the orange hazard cones surrounding it are slowly removed, she begins to find human connection alongside the sacred spiritual connection she has found with God.

This book is a must read for all Christians, especially Christian women searching for a deeper connection with self, God, and man.
