About this listen

Reality was objective—until they shattered it—in the first installment of this mind-bending fantasy series.

In a world where thoughts shape reality, Vern watches as the laws of physics crumble around him. But while others embrace mysticism, this scientist sees an opportunity to reverse engineer the new rules governing Victorian Elmhurst.

Marked by an elder god's rune burning in his mind and racing against its corruption, Vern forges his own way. Armed with years of scientific knowledge, he develops a unique power: the ability to perceive and manipulate Balance itself.

As he navigates gothic streets and political intrigue, Vern uncovers terrible secrets: immortal societies vying for control, cultists wielding reality like a weapon, and cosmic horrors that jeopardize humanity's very understanding of existence. With each encounter threatening to shatter his mind, he realizes that in a universe gone mad, perhaps ascending to godhood is the only path to sanity.

The first volume of this steampunk fantasy series—with almost a million views on Royal Road—now available on Kindle, Kindle Unlimited, and Audible!

I saw promotion for the book on Reddit and the blurb looked promising. I then tried the sample and was somewhat shocked at how good the performance was relative to my rather low expectations. The performance continued to be the standout component to the audiobook but the story held its own, picking up pace in the second half so much so that I finished it in a fraction of the time I spent on the first.

Definitely a great start to an indie author series.

Much better than anticipated.

the power system is really unique and every chacter feels alive. there are already a number of very interesting factions and I am already eager to hear the next book.

absolutely brilliant

To be honest this book didn't click with me and I almost considered refunding it early on.

Despite this I still recommend it and think people should give it a try. The power system is really unique and the world is interesting. it's well written and had good narration. I'm sure lots of people will love it.

I'll probably give it another try in the future as there's a lot to like here and I'm not sure why I didn't enjoy it more.

I think there were characters with hopes and dreams and plot. But all was subsumed in complex theoretical exploration of weird pseudo science.

Definitely not an audiobook to listen with enjoyment. It's only saving grace was an English narrator, but even their clear tones could do nothing to animate the dirge of this book.

Dull, dreary, and dry.
