About this listen

Will Britain take him in... or mark him as its enemy?

Faustus Valerianus is the son of a Roman father and a British mother, a captive sold among the spoils after Claudius’ invasion.

When both parents die within a month of each other, he sells the family farm and enlists, joining legendary general Agricola’s campaign to conquer the entirety of the British Isles.

But Faustus will have to contend with more than ferocious British warriors and whip-cracking elements. For the bonds of blood can weigh heavy on one’s soul. The call of his mother’s true people. His father’s restless shadow. Faustus must carry them with him...

A deeply moving, gripping, and epic historical drama, perfect for fans of Ben Kane, Alex Gough, and Andrew Frediani.

Amanda Cockrell, writing as Damion Hunter, is the author of seven previous Roman novels: the four-volume series ´The Centurions´. She grew up in Ojai, California, and developed a fascination with the Romans when a college friend gave her Rosemary Sutcliff’s books to read.

I'm a great fan of tales from the Roman era, especially when they're spiced up with such great fictional characters like those in this novel. I enjoyed it so much that I'd say this is up there with the likes of Bernard Cornwell and Simon Scarrow. The extra depth with storylines away from the battlefield made it feel all the more engaging, whisking me away to that bygone place in history. Looking forward to the next one!

Engaging adventure tale

Historically interesting but when the narrator makes the characters in the story sounds like a bunch of very posh Englishmen it doesn't work .By comparison narration by Jonathan Keeble in Simon Scarrow's books make the harsh characters of the men in the roman army sound much more realistic and less like a bunch of former English public school boys , Andrew Kingston's voice doesn't work with this novel and did somewhat spoil it for me.

The narrator isn't suitable for this book

I really enjoyed this book and really hope there will be another audiobook with these characters

A good yarn

It’s interesting looking at history though the main characters of this novel. Looking back to the Bronze Age population and then into the Iron Age population. Neither trusting the other.

This is a good story starting off more to come
