About this listen

*SHARPE’S COMMAND, the brand new novel in the global bestselling series, is available to pre-order now*

Spain, May 1811

As the British struggle to keep their last strongholds in Spain, Captain Richard Sharpe is handed a grenade of a command – ordered to train the Spanish palace guards for battle. But when the crumbling frontier fort where they are based becomes the target for the elite French attack, Sharpe is confronted by an old enemy.

After a desperate fight, the British are badly beaten and bruised – and so is Sharpe’s fragile reputation. The only hope of redemption is glory in one of the fiercest battles of the whole war. And so leading his men through the blood-stained, narrow streets of Fuentes de Oñoro is Sharpe . . .

if like me you've become a little obsessed with this series, take heart, this is one of the better ones. Mr Farley does another fantastic job of narration.

whether it's because The Allies were losing or Sharpes in the cack, this story didn't resonate as well as previous Sharpe stories

Not the best sharpe story. Still great.

Delivers exactly what you'd expect from Bernard Cornwell's Sharpe. I have all the books in paperback form and have just started to work my way through the audio versions. What really stood out for me was the narration, absolutely superb, better than the voices in my head, even down to the Spanish with a Scottish lilt (for those that haven't read it, Spanish general 'the wolf' was taught English by the ladies of Edinburgh ) . Along with all the usual vivid battle scene descriptions , who doesn't at some point imagine themselves as Richard Sharpe ?

Beautifully narrated and characterisation. A real page turner of a story with solid historical background. Life of Wellington’s army is well researched.

Ripping yarn
