About this listen
*SHARPE’S COMMAND, the brand new novel in the global bestselling series, is available to pre-order now*
Richard Sharpe, asked to help an old friend, meets, at last, the greatest enemy.
Five years after the Battle of Waterloo, Sharpe’s peaceful retirement in Normandy is shattered. An old friend, Don Blas Vivar, is missing in Chile, reported dead at rebel hands – a report his wife refuses to believe. She appeals to Sharpe to find out the truth.
Sharpe, along with Patrick Harper, find themselves bound for Chile via St. Helena, where they have a fateful meeting with the fallen Emperor Napoleon. Convinced that they are on their way to collect a corpse, neither man can imagine that dangers that await them in Chile…
Soldier, hero, rogue – Sharpe is the man you always want on your side. Born in poverty, he joined the army to escape jail and climbed the ranks by sheer brutal courage. He knows no other family than the regiment of the 95th Rifles whose green jacket he proudly wears.
Critic reviews
‘Sharpe and his creator are national treasures.' Sunday Telegraph
'Bernard Cornwell is a literary miracle. Year after year, hail, rain, snow, war and political upheavals fail to prevent him from producing the most entertaining and readable historical novels of his generation.' Daily Mail
'Cornwell's narration is quite masterly and supremely well-researched.' Observer
‘The best battle scenes of any writer I’ve ever read, past or present. Cornwell really makes history come alive.’ George R.R. Martin
I was a massive fan of the sharpe tv series long before I bothered to try the books. Well now having completed the book series I have to say I wish I hadn’t slept on them for this long and that now the tv series is kinda ruined for me now as the books are just amazing and has me wondering why the tv show didn’t stick to or closer to the book material!
I will 100% be re-listening the series very soon I know it. I already have and itch for it!
Worth every penny.
Truly great narration, not to over board on the voice acting just perfect.
One bonus from watching the tv series first is the character played by sharpe and Harper fit perfectly and I would have an image of Sean bean(sharpe) Daragh O’Malley (Harper) the whole way through the books
