About this listen

From New York Times bestselling author Bernard Cornwell, the eleventh installment in the world-renownedSharpe series, chronicling the rise of Richard Sharpe, a Private in His Majesty’s Army at the siege of Seringapatam.

In the winter of 1811, the war seems lost. Spain has fallen to the French, except for Cadiz, now the Spanish capital and itself under siege. Inside the city walls an intricate diplomatic dance is taking place and Richard Sharpe faces more than one enemy.

The small British force is trapped by a French army, and their only hope lies with the outnumbered redcoats outside refusing to admit defeat. There, in the sweltering horror of Barrosa, Sharpe will meet his old enemy Colonel Vandal once again.

I felt the plot and characters in this novel lacked the depth found in the earleir of Bernard Cornwell's Sharpe novels.

Overall an ok listen but not the best of the Sharpe stories. Its almost inconsequential that Sharp & Harper appear in the plot as if it could have happened without them really. Bit disapointed as I'm an avid Richard Sharpe fan.

Not my most favourihte Sharpe Novel

Abridged versions should not be the first recommendation to carry on a series. Downloaded without realising so wasted a credit

Very frustratingly downloaded this without noticing that, for some reason this copy has been produced when there is another version Red by Rupert Farley. Naturally, his is the voice that you need and this is not it. It’s abridged but the same price.

Not read by Rupert Farley - check before downloading.

I mistakenly bought this version rather than the unabridged version. The story has been gutted of most of the characterisation that makes the Sharpe stories so good. And with a superstar narrator who can’t put in any characterisation into any of the dialogue.

Avoid and buy the unabridged version
