Summary

Captured by raiders to be sold as a slave, Sofea narrowly escapes their ship and finds herself stranded on the shores of Israel. Bargaining her way to a city of refuge, she finds herself in an even more dangerous situation. Can she find safety in this city of strangers, accept their God as hers, and be satisfied with His justice instead of her own?

The daughter of a pagan high priest, Sofea finds solace from her troubles in the freedom of the ocean. But when marauders attack her village on the island of Sicily, she and her cousin are taken across the sea to the shores of Canaan.

Eitan has lived in Kedesh, a City of Refuge, for the last 11 years, haunted by a tragedy in his childhood and chafing at the boundaries placed on him. He is immediately captivated by Sofea, but revealing his most guarded secret could mean drawing her into the danger of his past.

As threats from outside the walls loom and traitors are uncovered within, Sofea and Eitan are plunged into the midst of a murder plot. Will they break free from the shackles of the past in time to uncover the betrayal and save their lives and the lives of those they love?

This book describes beautifully how Yahweh loves and knows each of us individually and his gift of free mercy to all who would accept it.

Yahweh’s mercy

This book continues in the lives of characters we met in the previous book, with new additions. I love how it is set in the early years of Israel's entry into the promised land and touches on issues faced at the time, traditions, and way of life. I feel like I actually know the characters. A wonderful book. The lady narrator is so good. I found the narrator in the King's Men series very annoying with her awful portrayal of the male characters, but this lady is perfect. Well done. I will be really sad when I have finished the final book.

Excellent in every way

I feel like I have stumbled upon a hidden secret in this series of The Cities of refuge. The way the books flow one from another; You are immediately transported to the land of Israel, the one that you have read about in the Bible, giving a perspective that makes you earn for more of YAHWEH. The characters are so rich, leaving you feeling that you know them all intimately. The narration is perfect, story telling at it's best without being intrusive. As you've probably guessed by now I have loved this series and cannot wait to dive into more.

Just Wonderful
