Summary

Enter a world where icy winds carry voices of spirits, where shamans cross realms, and where ancient peoples explained life, death, and the cosmos through vivid tales.

This Siberian Mythology Collection brings together two classics by ethnographer Waldemar Bogoras—Chukchee Mythology and Tales of the Yukaghir, Lamut, and Other Siberian Tribes. Preserved in oral tradition and recorded during Bogoras’s expeditions in the Russian Far East, these myths reveal the soul of one of the most remote cultures on earth.

About the author

Waldemar Bogoras (1865–1936) was a Russian ethnographer, folklorist, and linguist whose writings remain vital records of Siberia’s Indigenous traditions. Born in the Russian Empire, he dedicated his life to documenting the lore, beliefs, and lives of the peoples of the Far North.

Here are some of the tales you'll find inside:

  • The Girl and the Evil Spirit – a chilling clash with a dark force.
  • The Shaman Who Turned Into a Fox – a tale of transformation and power.
  • Story About Cannibals – a stark account of survival and taboo.
  • Reindeer-Born – the sacred origins of the reindeer.
  • The Monster with Iron Teeth – a terrifying Yukaghir legend.
  • The Grass-Blade Girl – a haunting creation tale.
  • The Woman’s Head – an eerie story of vengeance and spirits.
  • Story of Transformed Bears – where humans and animals blur along with many more tales!

Whether you love mythology, folklore, or anthropology, this collection offers enduring wisdom and unforgettable storytelling.

Journey into the frozen landscapes of Siberia and hear the voices of shamans, spirits, and heroes that still echo across the tundra.
