About this listen
As European empires crumbled in the 20th century, the power structures that had dominated the world for centuries were up for renegotiation. Yet instead of a rebirth for democracy, what emerged was a silent coup – namely, the unstoppable rise of global corporate power.
Exposing the origins of this epic power grab as well as its present-day consequences, Silent Coup is the result of two investigative journalists' reports from 30 countries around the world. It provides an explosive guide to the rise of a corporate empire that now dictates how resources are allocated, how territories are governed, and how justice is defined.
An important book, and a sad indictment of those in positions of power and influence.
Clinical Journalism of the highest calibre.

The authors, Claire Provost and Matt Kennard, have done an incredible job of researching a complex topic. They expose how global "aid" and development, often led by powerful groups like the IMF (International Monetary Fund) and the World Bank, have been twisted. Instead of simply helping the poor, these systems often serve the interests of massive corporations.
The book details a terrifying "arms race" where private companies rush to cash in billions. This isn't happening in public view; it is happening behind closed doors, far away from the news cameras. The authors show how corporations have built their own justice systems to overrule democracy, allowing them to sue countries that try to put their own people before profits.
Despite the heavy subject matter, the research is presented in a way that is clear and well-defined. You don’t need to be an economist to understand the scandal here.
The Audiobook Experience:
Listening to this was a genuine pleasure. The narrator has a clear, engaging tone that makes the information easy to digest. They manage to keep the pace steady, which is helpful when taking in such important facts.
Verdict:
This is investigative journalism at its best—brave, detailed, and shocking. It explains exactly why so many people feel that politics isn't working for them anymore. If you care about global justice and want to understand where the money really goes, you need to hear this.
