About this listen

Silver in the Wood

There is a wild man who lives in the deep quiet of Greenhollow, and he listens to the wood. Tobias, tethered to the forest, does not dwell on his past life, but he lives a perfectly unremarkable existence with his cottage, his cat, and his dryads.

When Greenhollow Hall acquires a handsome, intensely curious new owner in Henry Silver, everything changes. Old secrets better left buried are dug up, and Tobias is forced to reckon with his troubled past - both the green magic of the woods and the dark things that rest in its heart.

Drowned Country

Even the wild man of Greenhollow can't ignore a summons from his mother when that mother is the indomitable Adela Silver, practical folklorist. Henry Silver does not relish what he'll find in the grimy seaside town of Rothport, where once the ancient wood extended before it was drowned beneath the sea - a missing girl, a monster on the loose, or, worst of all, Tobias Finch, who loves him.

A beautiful tale that gripped me start to finish and would not let me go and on top of that a stellar narrator.
This is perfection that I will be coming back to again and again.

Gorgeous

This was such a wonderful listen. Both the story and narration were perfect. The story was like a fairytale and the narrator's deep and calm voice was a fantastic fit for it.

Beautiful stories and perfect narration

I found this book when I was looking for books read by Matthew Lloyd Davies, as he's one of my favourite narrators. I'm so glad that I stumbled across it. I very much liked the characters, the gentle humour and the plot of both stories. The narration by Lloyd Davies was perfect. He made it easy for the listener to distinguish between different characters, which is not always the case with some narrators. ***Slight spoiler ahead***
What a shame that Emily Tesh did not continue the Greenhollow series beyond the Drowned Country, but she seems to have wrapped up Tobias and Silver's story so it seems unlikely that she will return to it

A hidden gem read by a brilliant narrator

These two books had me captivated from the beginning and I didn’t want the story to end. Told beautifully, there is tenderness, love and mystery and the world created is rich and full.
I wasn’t sure what to expect given that these were classed as fantasy boos, but the fantastical elements blend so seamlessly with the ‘normal’ world that everything is believable.
I absolutely loved these books and will definitely be listening to them again.

Beautifully magical
