Barrister Arthur Skelton, his wonderful feisty wife, two realistic children and endearingly old-maidish clerk, Edgar welcomed me into their 1920s lives in the first of David Stafford's books 'Skelton's Guide to Domestic Poisons'. I loved every minute of the author's reading of that book and was even more entranced with this one.

Contemporary references dot the narrative ( the discussion of sweets in the 'Domestic Poisons' book is hilarious ) and the plot is satisfactorily twisty.

Arthur's cousins, Alan and Norah are missionaries 'In the Joy of Jesus' and perform the function of detective spies. The characters are mostly kind and always believable.

I can't recommend this and the previous book highly enough. You would have to have a heart of stone not to enjoy it.
