Summary

The opening of an elite country club, marked by a prestigious golf tournament, turns to chaos when a man is found dead in the clubhouse jacuzzi – with his throat cut. When the murder is linked to a legendary witches’ curse, Assistant Chief Constable Bob Skinner thinks it’s fantasy. He’s more concerned with harsh reality than East Lothian’s past as a centre for witchcraft. But when another body is found, he must uncover the disturbing truth beneath a dark mythology…

a good three quarters of this is golf commentary hence low stars. If I'd wanted that I'd have tuned into sports channel. didn't understand any of it . Very disappointed. ..so added to him being martial arts master...crack shot. ..invincible superman is also an expert golfer good enough to play alongside world's no.1 golfer? ??? !!! really? unlike other books of this ilk there's no building up of the other characters around skinner...its just all about how brilliant he is and how everyone bows to his superiority...oh dear...not a good book this time...

a Golf commentary!

What an ending. Quintin Jardine certainly kept this story interesting until the very end.
I love the Bob Skinner books - perhaps as an emigree Scot I would love to live in Gullane.
Excellent Story, Excellent Narrator - except he says goffer instead of golfer!

best QJ yet

A well read, rather prolonged quite but good although guessable thriller, over padded by golf references. Somewhat disappointing.

Great for golf aficionados

totally unbelievable, and pretentious, no regard for police procedures, apparently the press ignore multiple murders at a professional golf tournament. I believe in winning the lottery than by being hit by lightning.
