About this listen

Suspenseful and riveting, Nfudu is a gripping tale of passion, ambition, and glamour. Set in the vibrant 1960s Paris, London, and Lagos, it follows Nfudu, a young woman who leaves her affluent but chaotic Nigerian family behind to pursue her dream of becoming a renowned fashion designer.

Soon after arriving in Paris in 1963, Nfudu launches a heart-rending secret affair with her best friend’s charismatic and wealthy father, Javier. When she meets Ikechi, a striking financier, in London, Nfudu’s bond with Javier is tested. Ikechi appears to be the perfect match, but a grim revelation about his caste and the societal taboos surrounding its origins forces Nfudu to confront deep-seated prejudices and defend her honor.

Torn between her insatiable love for Javier and her burning desire for Ikechi, Nfudu takes matters into her own hands. Her actions send her down a slippery slope that threatens not only her existence but also that of those closest to her. Full of twists and turns, Nfudu intricately weaves a spellbinding love story with themes of crime, war, hatred, ancient taboos, and a clash of civilizations.

I loved the narration of Heather Masters, perfect for this book. Nfudu moves to Paris in the sixties to start a career in fashion. She falls in love with Javier her best friends father . But then she meets Ikechi and finds herself in a love triangle. This book has such in it, we have issues with, - class, culture, war, race, crime, sexuality, taboos. It leaves you at the edge of your seat.
