Critic reviews

The sleep guru to the stars explains how to discover your sleep cycle and why naps are essential
This is a tremendously exciting development and one I wholeheartedly support. Nick Littlehales provides leading professionals in the world of sport, including at Manchester United, with a better understanding of this natural physical and mental process - he enables players to maximise the quality and consistency of their sleep and in turn their overall performance (Sir Alex Ferguson)
Nick Littlehales is an innovative, world-class thinker. He designed the sleep solution for Team Sky's riders - who have now won the Tour de France four times - and British Cycling, who have used his principles of sleep optimisation at the last two Olympics to great effect (Philip Burt, lead physiotherapist, British Cycling)
Nick has revolutionised my recovery process through practical, tailored professional advice

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I would definitely recommend the content but do yourself a big favour and buy the physical book rather than the audio version

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Each chapter was well summarised with clear bullet points

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator can add a huge amount to the enjoyment of the book and equally can significantly detract from it. I think it was a major error for the author to do his own narration. It is a painfully difficult listen and I could only really tackle it in 30-45minute chunks. Such a shame .....

Any additional comments?

Buy the book, buy the book, buy the book it'll be much easier to digest the content than being distracted by the narration

Some great tips but a PAINFUL listening experience

I really struggled with this book.
It seemed like talking was too much of an effort for the reader. I felt he was boring himself.
Interesting content, but I couldn't finish it because of the reader apathy.

snooze

Nick Littlehales wrote the most helpful advice I’ve ever read about sleeping. I have literally spent 15 years battling with problems falling asleep, getting quality, unbroken sleep and battled with snoozing and groggy mornings.
His pre- and post sleep routine that I adhere to most nights a week now noticeably improve my mood and calmness in the evenings and mornings. I am more relaxed getting into work and feel less rushed that I give myself more time to process thoughts without a phone.

I have read many self-help books and practised meditation for years but this has had a massive impact on me. Perhaps, it also helped that it was written (and as an audiobook read) by someone British, hence making it a little less hyped, more grounded and fact-focused.

Hal Elrod’s “Miracle Morning” with its motivation-based approach did not appeal to me as much and hence its suggestions were taken up half-heartedly by me. This book convinces with research, proven methods and a multifaceted approach.

The reading by the author was perhaps a little slagging and slow sometimes but not to the point that it bothered me.
I have recommended this book to many since that talk to me about sleep issues.

A minor side note: I personally really appreciated the author’s effort to keep language surrounding the reader’s assumed relationships and family gender-neutral and inclusive, not heteronormative like in many American books.

Best British book on sleep

This book is a fascinating and easy to understand guide to the science of sleep.
The author, who does a good job of narrating this audiobook, got interested in the way we sleep when he was a bed salesman for Slumberland. He decided to approach Sir Alex Ferguson and that led to him working for many football clubs, organisations and individuals worldwide to teach the best way to get enough good sleep which obviously enhances quality of life and performance.
Nick Littlehales does not waffle! This book is not one of those self help guides that repeats itself and preaches just one idea. This book is well set out with each chapter giving a new satisfying fact about how to achieve better sleep. I loved it and am going to listen again now and take notes!

Well Worth a Listen

I enjoyed this book and found it helpful. The narration wasn't the best (some odd pacing and phrasing at times) but it wasn't so bad as to ruin the book. well worth a read.

an interesting read.<br />
