About this listen

Set in Colonial New England, Slewfoot is a tale of magic and mystery, of triumph and terror as only dark fantasist Brom can tell it.

Connecticut, 1666.

An ancient spirit awakens in a dark wood. The wildfolk call him Father, slayer, protector.

The colonists call him Slewfoot, demon, devil.

To Abitha, a recently widowed outcast, alone and vulnerable in her pious village, he is the only one she can turn to for help.

Together, they ignite a battle between pagan and Puritan – one that threatens to destroy the entire village, leaving nothing but ashes and bloodshed in their wake.

“If it is a devil you seek, then it is a devil you shall have!”

I love this book. It's a full of magic, demons, shamans and mother earths mythical creatures. It is very dark at parts. It is grim, full of horror and it is brutally honest to the gruesome past of how women were treated in the witch trials.

Full of magic and demons!

Narrated very well, story good, wish there was more. Hated it coming to an end. Wasn't scary but there was some suspenseful moments ***spoiler*** Wish the husband had more of a role for a bit longer but still very good.

'Slewfoot' by Brom is a lavishly dark novel. The readers are provided with an intricately woven story, as if it were threaded by the very black spiders present within Abitha's own story. This novel truly encapsulates what it meant to be a woman living in a puritan community. This novel touches upon many folk horror traditions, such as: ancient traditions, the power of nature, wildfolk, woodland spirits, and of course, witches. I cannot recommend this novel enough. Brom may be a world-renowned artist, but he is now worthy of becoming a prominent dark fantasy author to boot. Well played.

Puritanical Folk Horror

I enjoyed this book. Consistently written and well paced. I would warn readers that the women’s suffering is a bit endless and was a tough read at times.

Compelling and fast paced
