About this listen
A body is found naked and mutilated in a house. Two men, Iraq war veterans, must find out who did it and set out for revenge. As they do, they must confront their past and the evil that they themselves have wrought. They soon are facing the might of the mafia, and as they prepare for one more battle, they realize that they must use everything that they've learned in war or else they might not live....
©2013 Alternative Book Press (P)2016 Alternative Book PressOverall the book was well written, and the narration of the audiobook was acceptable. I did find the story somewhat confusing to follow though, as several flashbacks happens throughout the story, but the move from one scene to another was not very clear. I also did find the plot quite shallow and not very interesting. I really felt that the book was much more character driven then plot driven, which can be just fine, but in this case with shallow main characters, it just wasn’t enough. Normally when dealing with ex-war veterans that have personalities like this, you’d expect some kind of trauma, but in this case it turns out the characters are just like this from the start. This is of course fine, but their unlikeable and tough guy-driven attitudes were really pushed through the entire book, encapsulating all their actions, and we didn’t really learn much else about them. It was practically everything there was to the book in my humble opinion, which is a pity, because I liked the authors writing style, and it did include some enjoyable scenes throughout. I did find that the author do tend to overly describe peoples actions and the settings all the time.
I received this audiobook for free, in return for a review.
A well written, but shallow, character driven book
