The role of Viola her fears and position

I was exasperated with the main characters of this book.
A 40 year old man who spent 17 years partying and womanising, ignoring his own children because he blamed himself for their mother’s death.
A 42 year old woman who recklessly embarked on a solo trip with no protection in an unsafe carriage.
Families on both sides who standby waiting for these two to grow up.
Ironically the children do a better job of being adults in this tale.
Not the best Wescott instalment in my opinion
