Raven Kennedy’s Gild meets Jennifer L. Armentrout’s From Blood and Ash in this dark and riveting romantasy following an illegitamate princess caught up in the revenge of gods, the first book in a trilogy about survival, obsession, and the quiet fury of a woman who won’t be forgotten.

A marriage forged in blood. A kingdom bathed in silence. And a princess who refuses to break.

As the king’s illegitimate daughter, Princess Mireille has spent her whole life scorned by the court, her fate never her own, even now as she’s forced into marriage with the infamous conqueror threatening her kingdom’s borders. She expects distance, perhaps even cold civility from the Blood King – not the unsettling pull of his attention.

Yet when their wedding descends into bloodshed, the man meant to be her escape becomes her captor, imprisoning her in her own dungeons. There, Mireille uncovers the truth of her father’s sins, discovering she's not alone beneath the castle. A voice calls from the cell beside her, a man as dangerous as he is alluring, offering a single thread of light in the darkness.

Dragged into a brutal struggle for survival, Mireille is caught between two powerful beings that threaten to consume her entirely: one demanding obedience, and the other craving what little soul she has left.

But Mireille was not born to kneel.

I went into Souls in Ruin completely blind. From the first chapter I knew this was an author I could trust to take me on a journey. The journey turned out to be heart-wrenching and soul-devouring, but every page was worth it. The dedication page is not playing around. Without a doubt this will be the best book I read in 2026.

Remarkable. Beautiful. Emotionally Devastating.

Meg really is one of the best female narrators out there. She does what very few do and actually conveys the emotions of the character.

The story is tough going, with most of it centering around the imprisonment of the FMC and the torture she endures. But it's through the torture that her resilience and power grows. It's a battle of power between herself and her captor.

I would say the ending seemed a bit rushed but I'm looking forward to seeing where the story goes in the next book.

Beautiful but dark

By chapter 11 I was hooked!

Just fantastic ! The story was full of plot, world building, character building and spice.

The narrators did an amazing job!

I will definitely be listening to this one again, and I really can’t wait for book 2.

It’s also added to my favourites in Audible.

Don’t miss this one… it’s so good.

Wow. The twists and turns had me so shook! 20% (IYKYK) The heartache, the character development, the mystery of who to trust and who not to trust still has me questioning myself! But how this all unravels is just incredible.

I can’t wait to see how this story unfolds!

After seeing so many people raving about this book I've been waiting for some time for this to come out on audio book and it was definitely worth the wait.

Court Of Ravens is one of my favourite duets and this gave me very similar vibes, it's dark romantasy and done well (although "romantasy or "romance" may be considered questionable 🤷‍♀️ - not saying that as a bad thing but if you read or listen to this you'll get what I mean) I wouldn't say it was quite as dark as the Feathers So Vicious duo but as with anything like this do check the TW as it may not be everyones cup of tea,

I enjoyed everything about this book and it's the first in a while where although I figured a few things out I really didn't know what was going to happen next most of the time or how it would turn out in the end, just when you think you know where it's going "tah dah" something else happens instead, I actually went in to this book thinking - oh this will be one of those books where the girl meets the "bad guy" who's not really a bad guy and they'll go on a merry little adventure together - nope that is not this book! it was also one of those books where I ended up commenting my opinions and thoughts on what ought to happen to specific characters out loud at times 😆

Also massive credit to the author as I don't know what to think or how to feel about the 2 MMC's - at different times I liked, loved or loathed the pair of them, I'm so confused! I'm going along wondering if any of them are "end game" and if they are how are they believably going to redeem themselves??? I can't wait for the next book to find out,

The narration was brilliant for this too, I haven't listened to many books with EM Wylde narrating but will be looking out for more, Meg Sylvan is fast becoming one of my favourite female narrators and for any audio book fans Corvin King needs no introduction, and in duet style ... bonus!

I could say so much more but I don't want to spoil anything, so if you decide to listen to this I hope you enjoy,

Worth the wait,
