Speedy Death (1929) is the debut novel by Gladys Mitchell, introducing her famous detective, the unorthodox psychoanalyst Mrs. Beatrice Bradley, who investigates a murder at a country house party where a woman’s body is found in a bathtub, leading to a series of events and suspects among the guests. The book is a classic Golden Age mystery, known for its witty dialogue, complex plot, and the introduction of the eccentric but brilliant Mrs. Bradley, who uses her psychological insights to solve the crime.

I have read lots of books by Gladys Mitchell and enjoyed them and although this was a good story it was let down by the narrator being American. The story is set in 1950s England and in my opinion was completely spoilt by the narrator sounding like Angela Lansbury in Murder She Wrote. In previous audiobooks narrated excellently by Patience Tomlinson Mrs Bradley is portrayed as described and I was very disappointed by this narration.

Very disappointed!
