Marjorie is the pretty one of the Preston sisters. So pretty that when a performer at her sister's music room breaks her leg, Marjorie is asked to fill in as the assistant to the singer Denby Sinclair. He offers to take her with him, away from Lancashire and into London theatres.

It seems as if her dreams will come true, but Denby is not what he seems. He has a dangerous secret, which, if it were to be revealed, would ruin her. Marjorie, however, is reckless and will take any risk for a chance to work on the stage. And when disaster strikes, she is left alone and away from the North. Can she regain her heart's desire and find happiness again? Just as it seems she has overcome her troubles, another danger arises in Hedderby, one that threatens her and her family.

A great second book.

Another great series by this author which I am really enjoying. Margery was a character who it took me a while to warm to however in the end I really liked her. Harold was also a lovely guy however Demby and Affle were horrible characters. In a saga like this to make it good you need a mix of good and bad characters and we had that here. I really got into the lives of the characters and found myself wanting to know what would happen. Anna Jacobs has a habit of writing in a way that makes you get drawn into the characters and there lives. I'm already reading book 3 as I write this review. Anne Dover who narrates a lot of this authors work is perfect for these types of books. Her accents are really good and she has a really pleasant reading style which suits this type of book, she can also add emotion and suspense when required.

Loving this series so far.

I said that the 1st episode was a bit to long, but this one is longer
and it and I enjoyed it much more. Thanks very much both to both of you.👍😬

Brilliant, thanks!

I thoroughly enjoyed listening to this, the sequel to The Pride of Lancashire, and I'm looking forward to reading/listening to the rest of the series. As always, Anne Dover brought the various characters to life beautifully.

Another excellent Anna Jacobs story
