Inheriting your uncle's supervillain business is more complicated than you might think. Particularly when you discover who's running the place.

Charlie's life is going nowhere fast. A divorced substitute teacher living with his cat in a house his siblings want to sell, all he wants is to open a pub downtown, if only the bank will approve his loan.

I really liked this story and loved the narration.

It’s light hearted, funny and I enjoyed the twists in the plot .

If about 1.5hrs before the end, you begin to think the book is too short, stick with it! It isnt! There are some twists I didnt see coming, and it wraps up nicely. It's a short, fun, entertaining tale! Highly recommend!

This was a fun read and a lot of thought has gone into being a Starter Villain, which this book is great on giving us such details. Some reviews say this isn't as good as his other books but I really enjoyed it and will read more of John Scalzi's work.

Poor Charlie is struggling in life and with a past failed marriage and a degree in journalism he has resorted to teaching to have an income. He is kind and his dream is to own and run a bar. Charlie's life revolves around Hera his cat and upon finding another orange stray he names Persephone he meets a woman on his porch swing. She is about to change his life as his estranged multi-billionaire uncle has just died. Oh let the frolicking begin, Hera lead the way. I hear dolphins swearing in the background. Enjoy: Narration was Purrfect

I'm very picky when it comes to narrators. They can kill an otherwise good book. In this case...the narrator was THE ONE. Anyone who says otherwise either isnt an english speaker and cant keep up with his pace or is dead inside. Yea he doesnt try to sound like different characters, but I appreciated it honestly. it beats poor performance trying to sound like a woman or Asian. Just be you. I loved every second of it.
