About this listen

Frank Gerber isn't happy at all. Being a bounty hunter sucks. Even more so when it pays very little. What sucks even more is that his client decides to skip payday. A pimp dressed in a frilly pink suit. Can his day turn even worse?

It can when polite conversation turns into unabashed violence, and Frank finds himself the new owner of the most rundown joint in the Ashpit. With a mounting debt, not nearly enough booze, and a single bartender in his service, he will have to do...yeah, he doesn't know what yet, but he will eventually find out.

Everything can wait.

After all, when in doubt, light a cigar and have a whiskey. If he still can't figure it out after a drink, then he will...not hit it with a fireball and watch it burn because he can't cast any any elemental spells. He can stab it with his sword, though.

Join Frank as he adventures deep into dungeons to hunt down trophies, adopts the worst possible rejects into his family, and makes sure he can pay tax come end of the month. Death and taxes...and all that.

This is a gritty dark story with a realistic down to earth anti-hero protagonist, who lives in a corrupt city, barely making ends meet and struggling to stay alive, despite this he never gives up and works hard to improve himself any way he can. Frank our hero is a bounty hunter, after returning from a mission that was much harder and dangerous than he was promised, he gets into an argument with his shifty employer about the compensation for the job, an argument that quickly escalates to violence. When the dust has settled, his employer is dead and our hero finds out he lost his membership in the bounty hunter guild and is now the proud owner of a rundown nightclub, formerly belonging to his now deceased client. A development our protagonist is less than happy about at first, but after being shown by the drow bartender, who now is in his employment, how lucrative the nightclub business is, not to mention much less dangerous than his former job, he decides to make the best out of it and turn his nightclub into a success, but he soon learns that might be more difficult than he thought.
Interesting first book, quite a change of pace from what i usually read, but i enjoyed it quite a bit, curious how the story will continue in book two.

In a refreshing break from the standard trend of young MCs that often are throughout the genre, Steel and Moonshine is based around a soon to be middle age MC who having seen the horrors a life of adventuring wants to offer, wants nothing more than a peaceful life where the worst he has to deal with is a drunk orc and dwarf breaking his furniture, its a shame life doesn't like his plan.

Honestly it's an enjoy ride and as I mentioned before its refreshing to read more stories of MCs where they don't want fame, glory and a suicidal odds, definitely feels a lot more relatable for me. The narrator does a fantastic job of bringing the characters to life and the pacing of the story feels like a nice natural flow. I look forward to the next installment.

A fun story about an MC that just wants to stop
