About this listen

A wryly funny and moving account of an extraordinary life lived almost entirely in the public eye.

Teen idol at 15, international icon and founder of the Brat Pack at 20, and one of Hollywood's top stars to this day, Rob Lowe chronicles his experiences as a painfully misunderstood child actor in Ohio uprooted to the wild counterculture of mid-1970s Malibu, where he embarked on his unrelenting pursuit of a career in Hollywood.

The Outsiders placed Lowe at the birth of the modern youth movement in the entertainment industry. During his time on The West Wing, he witnessed the surreal nexus of show business and politics, both on the set and in the actual White House. And in between are deft and humorous stories of the wild excesses that marked the 80s, leading to his quest for family and sobriety.

Never mean-spirited or salacious, Lowe delivers unexpected glimpses into his successes, disappointments, relationships, and one-of-a-kind encounters with people who shaped our world over the last 25 years. These stories are as entertaining as they are unforgettable.

Rob Lowe's reading of his book is so far one of the two best books I have listened to on Audible. It's not just read by the author, it is inhabited, as any autobiography should be but many are not.
A thoroughly enjoyable journey through the actors full and interesting life, warts and all.
His narration is emotive and when other characters are introduced, impressively voiced.
I'm certain I shall return to this again and again.
Bravo Rob Lowe and thank you. CHEERS !!

It is such a pleasure to negate Rob Lowe telling his story. He is serious about acting, serious about trying to be a good person and serious about being a good writer too. His funny stories are subtle and charming and he does the voices very well too being a natural mimic.

What a lovely autobiography!

i found this book really touching and well written. Very well crafted, hillerious impersonations and with so much heart. As someone in recovery I really Identified with Rob's Journey. The mother with mental health issues, the absent father, the addict brain and the addict persona. I so humbled by the miracles that do happen after life seems utterly hopeless during the bottom. I was moved to tears many times and am grateful to have heard it.

Literally! Great, Beautiful and moving

i hate to say this but i was very surprised at just how good this autobiography/memoir was. Rob tells a good story and keeps it so interesting you hate to stop listening. i found it very thought provoking as well. Just a wonderful glimpse into his very interesting life that left me feeling not only nostalgic, but wanting to hear more! i hope his other book appears on audible soon, it will definitely go on my list. p.s. its nice to know he's not full of himself as well.

So good, i'm gonna listen again!
