I only discovered William McIlvanney when he had already died. All the Laidlaw books are stunningly well written and the mixture of crime drama and philosophy unique. I definitely recommend you read or listen to them all.

Such an elegant, clever and witty writer. Not afraid of the darkness within everyone or delving deeply into the Scottish psyche, especially from the west coast. A lesson in great writing. Great audio by Mark Bonnar.

Mark Bonnar was a fantastic choice to narrate this. I loved the book. It evoked the city of Glasgow in the 1990s. Characters were all realistic.
