Summary

“The plot twists ingeniously...an engaging, often chilling book.” - The New York Times Book Review

A writer in California. A doctor in Boston. A motel owner and his employee in Nevada. A priest in Chicago. A robber in New York. A little girl in Las Vegas. They’re a handful of people from across the country, living through eerie variations of the same nightmare.

A dark memory is calling out to them. And soon they will be drawn together, deep in the heart of a sprawling desert, where the terrifying truth awaits...

Dick Hill turns in a grand performance here. The story is pretty slow and steady at the start and introduces some characters who are important and some not, but it all builds to a bigger picture.

The second half is far faster paced and as things become clearer the story develops well. The ending is a little quick as if Koontz didn't know how to finish it, but would have been nice for a 12 months later type prologue.

Love the book, but the narrator speaks very slowly so I'd advise you play at 1.5 speed if you don't want to get annoyed. Also, sometimes when as he talks in different voices for different characters, I couldn't make out what he said.

Play at 1.5

Can remember reading this book years ago and enjoyed it just as well now, even better having it read to me on long commuter driving!

Lovely story!

The story is ok but the first half just describes the fear of the main players in painfully long-winded ways. Also, the narrator was really not great. Weird stilting. And his 'women' all sounded the same - all a bit twee.

Just WAAAY too much waffling...
