Summary

Fiona doesn't remember going to sleep. But when she opens her eyes, she discovers her entire world has been altered - her house is abandoned and broken, and the entire neighborhood is barren and dead. Even stranger is the tattoo on her right wrist - a black oval with five marks on either side - that she doesn't remember getting but somehow knows she must cover at any cost.

And she's right.

When the honeybee population collapsed, a worldwide pandemic occurred and the government tried to bio-engineer a cure. Only the solution was deadlier than the original problem - the vaccination turned people into ferocious, deadly beasts who were branded as a warning to unvaccinated survivors. Key people needed to rebuild society are protected from disease and beasts inside a fortress-like wall. But Fiona has awakened branded, alone - and on the wrong side of the wall.

The action scenes and the way the suspense was cleverly done at the end was gripping. It is great how the author drip feeds new information just at the right times throughout the book so that you have just enough to keep wanting to read on - on par with the hunger games books!

If you like a story that keeps you guessing, read this!

Gripping

From the narration to the story, this book is brilliant. It may be aimed at teens… but I’m 49 years young and really enjoyed it x

Excellent from start to finish

It keeps you intrigued, narration very good I could actually see the scenes. Worth reading

I enjoyed

This novel is written from the point of view of a 17-year-old female so it lost quite a bit of its authenticity through the use of what sounds like a middle-aged robot for narration. I don’t understand why you wouldn’t choose someone who fits the description of the main character to perform it.

However. I really liked the story and how several different themes converged, and it was worth persevering with. A great offer from the plus catalogue (and the sequel is also worth a listen)

Great story but narration was an odd choice
