About this listen

Lord Pastern fired his revolver. The figure in the spotlight fell and the coup-de-theatre had become murder. Could Inspector Alleyn believe Pastern had let hatred of his future son-in-law go too far? Or would the tangle of jealousies and blackmail among the guests reveal another murderer?

Inspector Alleyn again solves the murders in a sea of red herrings assisted by his reliable aide de camp Fox. Many of the characters were very irritating and tone of story jolted rather against modern day mores. Phillip Franks did an admirable job given the vast range of characters.

Gruesome thriller

The narrator was expressive but sometimes sounded as if he was in an Enid Blyton Famous Five story. However overall this didn’t distract from this excellent story.

Excellent who dunnit

Classic crime novel immensely enhanced by Philip Franks’ narration. An unbeatable combination, Perfectly pitched. More Marsh from Franks please.

Always love her books. Dated but knew that when I bought it. Dozed off a few times but nice twist at the end.
