About this listen

Billions died during the global civil war that followed the outbreak. Anarchy took grip. Chaos ruled. The world collapsed. In Britain, the evacuation failed. Nowhere was safe from the undead.

Four months after the outbreak Bill Wright has found safety in a ruined abbey in southern England, but he is still alone. All he has for company are the files sent to him by his shadowy contact, Sholto. On those, he believes he has found the origins of the undead, and the vast conspiracy in which he discovers he played an unwitting part.

He needs answers, and knows the only place they will be found is at the facility that created the virus. As he journeys through the desolate ruins of a dead civilisation, he meets other survivors. He rescues some, is rescued by others, but ultimately discovers that zombies are not the most deadly threat in an undead wasteland.

Picking up where we left off this is the adventure of the ordinary Bill who is not your normal post apocalyptic survivalist nut but a rather normal civil servant (or so it seems). The character development is a major factor for my 5* rating and the movement from an isolated survivor into a populated world is excellent. If you want a UK version of a zombie novel then this is it - but start from the beginning of the series.

Book Two - more zombies and people in the UK

Great 2nd addition to the series
The narrator really does a good job at setting up the feeling of survival in the story

Great 2nd Book

very confused by the messy book ordering in this series causing great frustration at time and purchase of wrong book as a result but after that the book itself is another one of those you can't bare to put down. great plot full of twists and turns especially the ending and characters so very likeable or hateable in some cases of course. well written definitely recommend this series. best book so far.

very confusing book order but awsome

This chapter continues right from where the first finishes, it starts well and strong and as expected but soon becomes messy and clunky. With the introduction of new characters and voices the diary journal format goes out the window sacrificing the simple story narrative for something that does not quite work well.
The conversational pieces just do not work and it is just unnecessary, a real shame but still a good story and it does manage to keep you wanting more. I am worried about where the story will go as I fear it will be too complex and perhaps suffer the same fate as the walking dead.
Would have been Mitch better to keep it the simple journal format and different from the rest although diary of the dead wins on that format.

Not as good as the first but still good
