Emmy
My fall from grace was one for the books. All it took was his word against mine for everything to topple. Liar. Slut. Snitch.
Now, I wear my shame like a scarlet letter pinned to my chest. People say I ruined his life. Except he’s the one who irrevocably broke me - my heart, my body, my soul...my will to live.
Sterling
Like a little coward, she thinks the span of five states is enough to keep her safe. But I know where she is, and I’m going to make her pay. She ruined my best friend’s life. Now...I’m going to ruin her. One by one, I’ll spill her secrets, until she has nowhere left to turn - except to me, her very own big bad wolf.

The first time I read it back in 2021, it was one of those books that found me exactly when I needed it. It was one of the first stories that made me feel like I wasn’t “wrong” for how I coped, and that alone made it unforgettable for me.
So coming back to it now, I was a little nervous. I didn’t know if it would still hit the same way. It did, just in a different way.
At the beginning, I felt it immediately like “wow, I forgot how close to home this actually is.” And instead of pulling away from that, I found myself appreciating it more. The way Emmy’s emotions are written, the way her coping and healing are handled—it still feels honest. Not perfect, not polished… just real.
Sterling, though??
I also forgot how much of a menace he is in the beginning (yes, I still love a little bully romance moment👀), but watching that shift again and seeing him go from that version of himself to someone so deeply protective and steady... swoon!
And then there’s the found family.
The friendships, the banter, the way they show up for each other. It brought such a softness to the story that balances everything else so well. It’s not just about the romance, it’s about having people who hold you up when you can’t do it yourself.
This reread didn’t just remind me why I loved this book, it reminded me where I was when I first read it, and how far I’ve come since then.
Still a top 5 book.

The H was a piece of crap. Even if Emmilynn had been a liar, what kind of Sane person worth knowing agrees to engage in creepy AF revenge against a girl in his class. I'm amazed Sterling didnt get in trouble what with being her TA and everything.
Writers note. Too much use of Crux silly pet names. "Baby" & "little mouse"
Almost DNF
