Summary

Get a personal chef, they said. It’ll be fun, they said.

And then Thierry shows up and Pietro realizes his mistake. Because he knows Thierry. A little too well.

Thierry is the man who told his ex to leave him.

Thierry is the man who punched Pietro and ran.

Thierry...is his ex-boyfriend’s best friend.

But Pietro also knows the man needs a job. An injury destroyed his former career, and Pietro is nothing if not a bleeding heart. Besides, he doesn’t have time to search for a new chef, not with the World Series looming and his team ready to go all the way.

Life gets more complicated, though, when he and Thierry cross a line one night after a lot of wine and several bad jokes. And while hooking up is one thing, Pietro knows the last thing in the world he needs is for his heart to get involved.

Too bad it tends to make decisions without him.

Switch-Hitter is the first book in a fictional MLB series featuring a lonely baseball player with a chip on his shoulder and hope in his heart, a team ready to win no matter what it takes, a grumpy French chef who will defend escargot to the death, and a few bottles of dry red wine leading to the sweetest happily ever after. Each book in the Hit and Run series stands alone, contains no cheating, and has a happily ever after.

I enjoyed this a beautifully written and beautifully told sports romance novel, the story drew me in immediately, grabbing my attention and captivating it the entire time. The characters are realistic, easy to relate and connect with, they are each for care about too, well except for Havre, he is not very likable. Herve is the common denominator to the two lead characters, Pietro Bassani and Thierry Bourget, Pietro his ex-boyfriend and Thierry his former bodyguard. Relationship drama was the reason for Pietro & Herve’s breakup and Thierry had a hand in that drama by instigating it and causing a physical altercation between him and Pietro. Thierry had been Herve’s friend for years and was always protective of him, so becoming his bodyguard made sense, but protecting him cost him a lot and it also opened his eyes to Herve’s true “me, myself and I” nature. Pietro, a major league baseball player, put all that drama behind him, and right now he is focusing on his team and game. But when he places an ad for a personal chef, it is past who is knocking on his door for the interview. Thierry is still recovering from his injury and is trying to get his feet on the ground while dealing with limitations, but he needs a job and thinks he found the perfect one except the last person he wanted to see is the one who placed that ad. Can Pietro get past what Thierry did to him and can Thierry work for him? I loved watching these two navigate around each other when they first met and then watch their relationship progress and it was great great to learn more about them, their struggles and challenges. E. M Lindsey is a gifted author, she puts so much heart and emotions in her story that you can feel them pouring off the pages and straight into your heart. She does a great job covering sensitive topics relating to ADHD, mental health and physical limitations, loved that she kept it all real. Thank you for another wonderfully entertaining story and emotional rollercoaster ride.

🎧📚🎧 And for the fabulous narration, E. M. Lindsey cast the perfect narrator to bring her characters and their story to life. John Solo is a superbly talented narrator and a versatile voice artist. He has a complete understanding of the characters he portrays, gives each a voice that suits the character’s to a tee, sounding believable and just as I picture to character to sound. He sets the perfect tone for the story, captures all the characters’ emotions and projects them into his performance. John Solo is an entertaining storyteller and his narration enhances an already great story to another level. Thank you for another exceptional listen, it is always a pleasure to listen to your work.

A good character story with what both MC's experience in this book. It's an enemies to lovers romance with Thierry having punched Pietro in the face a few months back and no he's turned up to interview for the job of personal chef. A lot has happened for both in the in between - Pietro has been diagnosed with ADHD and is struggling to organise his life while Thierry was shot whilst defending his best friend as his bodyguard leaving his with life changing injuries.
I enjoyed the tension between the two and how they work through it. Each man needs the other with Thierry in need of the job, for the money but also for himself and getting back into work after being left partially paralysed, and Pietro needs help with his food and nutrition, taking control of hi life by accepting help from others. It's a slow burn romance and I think that the physical aspect was written well considering the limitations that Thierry has or feels he has. Both men have pride and stubbornness which leads to some tense moments but overall it's a good story to read/listen to.
John Solo's narration really brings the characters to life, I enjoyed Thierry's husky french accent and Pietro's attitude and brattiness really comes through.

Emotional and physical journey for both MC's

A super start to a series that should be followed by EM Lindsey. Fantastic characters that i fell in love with and found addictive to follow around. John Solo did a great job bringing the characters to life.

A story about two souls touch and love deprived who get to know each other again in different circumstances. I was touched by their circumstances.
The story is fine and the narrator good but the pronunciation was sometimes a bit difficult for me, specially Thierry, because his voice was deeper and lower. I was all the time going up and down the volume, something very annoying.

“I don’t want to lose any part of what we have.”

A start to another great series by EM Lindsey. It's a (former) enemies to lovers tale (they get over the enemies part really quick so it's pretty light), with two men who are just trying to get their lives together. Full of love and passion, I was rooting for these two from the start and really enjoyed their chemistry. It's definitely sports light, not a huge sports read, but just enough to get an alternate reality view into an athlete's life. I listened to the narration by John Solo and thought he did a phenomenal job. Even with the accents, everything was top notch and kept me fully engaged with the story.

Looks like another amazing series from Lindsey!
