About this listen

Mercia, 878 AD—Witch-warrior Niamh discovers a new order called the Hidden Ones is seeking to establish a foothold in Lunden. Her people have already been scarred by Viking raiders, bloody wars, and clashing cultures. Determined to protect what remains of her homeland, she infiltrates this new group to discover whether they stand with her … or against her.

Yet when Niamh learns the Hidden Ones have stolen an artifact sacred to her people, her own loyalties are challenged. Casting aside newfound alliances and friendships, Niamh soon discovers that betrayal comes with a heavy price and it will take everything in her power—her gods willing—to survive.

A must listen for fans of the Assassin's Creed Valhalla such as myself. I'd argue a must listen simply for those who love fiction set in the the British Isles 800-900AD.

Elsa Sjunneson has written a very entertaining novel here packed with action, espionage and complex interweaved character interactions that perfectly capture the essence of Assassin's Creed and blend it perfectly with Arthurian mythos. It's easy to see how Sjunneson has won awards in the past.

Meanwhile Moira Quirk, delivers a fantastic engaging performance with a variety of distinguishable character voices - with an impressive array of accents - that accurately reflect their personalities and showcase a unique but faithful spin on some previously established characters from the video game.

Quirk's narrator voice is a delight to listen to for prolonged periods, with a gentle yet dynamic control of timbre and volume and the perfect usage of colouring and commenting the text without overworking the text and letting it do it's job.

A great effort from all involved! Thank you Sjunneson, Quirk and all involved in the production and publishing of the Audiobook at Recorded Books.

A very entertaining independent follow up story to Assassin's Creed Valhalla

The story is interesting and holds your attention. It definitely fits into the Assassin’s Creed world perfectly. I had been so excited at the inclusion of Celtic mythology into the AC universe but just as in the game it’s all slightly off and quite frustrating. Had they made Niamh Irish instead of Scottish it would have made a big difference in accuracy as The Morrígán, the main Goddess in the story is Irish and Niamh is also an Irish name.

Celtic mythology all over the place.
