Summary

In this fifth book in the Magykal series, Septimus ends up on a captivatingly beautiful island, one of seven set in a sparkling sea. He's stranded there with his badly injured dragon, Spit Fyre, along with Jenna and Beetle. There are some strange things about the island, including a Magykal girl named Syrah, a cat-shaped lighthouse that has lost its Light, and an eerie presence that sings to Septimus—can he escape the persistent call?

Trouble is also brewing for Lucy and Wolf Boy, who have become entangled with some nefarious sailors at sea, and for Milo Banda, Jenna's father, who is harboring a mysterious treasure chest in his ship's hold.

Charismatic storyteller Angie Sage continues Septimus Heap's Magykal journey with more laugh-out-loud adventures, more enchanting charms and spells, and an ever-deepening understanding of the interior life of a young hero.

This children’s fantasy is entertaining and imaginative. Starting with a dragon flight to hunt for lost siblings, Septimus flies back with his sister and best friend but his dragon is injured in a storm and crash land on an island. He goes on to meet and release another apprentice wizard, rescues Milo’s ship and crew from wreckers and saves the castle from a gyn army.

Children’s fantasy at its best

I love these books and rediscovering them has been a delight i didnt know i was missing. my only problem is that in books 2&3 the narrator pronounced the name of Queen Cerys one way and then from this book onwards says it a completely different way that to me is most off-putting

like meeting an old friend

Any additional comments?

This series has really captured my son's imagination. We've read some of the books and listened to some on audio. The narration is superb. It's definitely not a Harry Potter rip off just because there are wizards involved - a very different feel. Highly recommended

Great books for pre teen readers
