Never forgetting his dream of owning a horse ranch, Grounds afterward returns home to Eastern Montana. He ekes out a sparse existence for himself and his family by becoming a bounty hunter - an occupation as deadly as his battles in the various wars America fights during T. S. Grounds' gripping story.
With Europe in crisis, the Montanan is pulled into World War I, where it’s “gas masks for men and horses” and still no rest for Grounds. While a work of fiction, Lloyd's novel is as historically accurate as extensive research can make it. The characters, enmeshed in the barbed wire of a world in turmoil, live and die by the use of the firearms of the day, the Sharps rifles, the Winchesters, Colt pistols, etc., which are portrayed with the author's extensive knowledge of guns and weapons of the late 1800s through the World War I era.
