In TAXTOPIA a rogue accountant breaks ranks to share his journey from clueless naïf to skilled tax consultant -and in doing so blows the lid on the murky world of making the tax burdens of the ultra-wealthy disappear.

In the topsy-turvy world of tax avoidance, you can get richer by buying a yacht, the world's biggest exporter of coffee is Switzerland, and the Duke of Westminster pays less tax than you do.

Written with sharp wit and over-brimming with inside secrets, the anonymous author shows us that not only does the global tax system encourage dubious practice which favours the rich, but that it was specifically founded with that in mind.

If you suspect that tax is a rigged game, a con, designed to fleece the little guy, you are about to find out just how shockingly true that really is.

Welcome to TAXTOPIA.

The author is fantastic. The narrator great. I absolutely loved it. I thought I was rich. I have become disabused of that notion. Hilarious. I now am having philosophical dialogues with myself. Woop. wooop. Buy the book! buy the book. Comedy it is. Never ever buying a Starbucks again!

Wow, just wow.

Great listen, super entertaining, an inside look at how insane the system actually works and surprisingly and interesting solution in the end. Actually changed my mind on taxes.

So sad that I finished it. I want more.

I have to start this review with a genuine complaint: I was absolutely gutted when this audiobook finished.

Not because it was lacking, but because the story, the insider information, and the weaving of side anecdotes were so thoroughly enjoyable that I simply wasn’t ready to take my headphones off. James Lailey’s narration is top-tier, bringing a perfect level of energy and wit that matches the text beautifully.

You wouldn’t expect a book about tax, morality (or the complete lack thereof), and financial law to be a page-turner, let alone funny. Yet, this book is packed with fun facts, twists, and real-world plots that kept me entertained throughout. I found myself with a wry smile, a chuckle, or a proper laugh in almost every chapter—a massive achievement for a topic usually considered 'dry'.

Hand on heart, this has been one of the best listens I’ve had in the past 12 months, and I’d recommend it to everyone. Just a heads-up: don’t expect this book to fix your personal tax issues. However, it will give you a completely different perspective on how society and politicians view the system. It definitely changes the way you think about those monthly debits leaving your account and the realisation that they aren't making the difference you think they are.

Most shockingly, it addresses the question of the rich and super-rich. Without spoiling the book, the irony is staggering: almost none of the tax system applies to them in the way it does to us. You really have to listen to understand the mechanics of it, but prepare to be properly shocked.

If you think tax is boring, Taxtopia will prove you wrong. A five-star listen!

A brilliant, shocking, and unexpectedly hilarious ride—I didn't want it to end!
