Summary

Brought to you by Penguin.

From award-winning actor and food obsessive Stanley Tucci comes an intimate and charming memoir of life in and out of the kitchen.

Before Stanley Tucci became a household name with The Devil Wears Prada, The Hunger Games, and the perfect Negroni, he grew up in an Italian American family that spent every night around the table. He shared the magic of those meals with us in The Tucci Cookbook and The Tucci Table, and now he takes us beyond the recipes and into the stories behind them.

Taste is a reflection on the intersection of food and life, filled with anecdotes about growing up in Westchester, New York, preparing for and filming the foodie films Big Night and Julie & Julia, falling in love over dinner, and teaming up with his wife to create conversation-starting meals for their children. Each morsel of this gastronomic journey through good times and bad, five-star meals and burnt dishes, is as heartfelt and delicious as the last.

Written with Stanley's signature wry humor and nostalgia, Taste is a heartwarming read that will be irresistible for anyone who knows the power of a home-cooked meal.

Critic reviews

An instant classic . . . As captivating, simple, charming and insanely moreish as the best Italian food. Take it to bed with you and you will fall asleep dreaming you're in Italy. But take it to the kitchen and you will find yourself using it as often as a pan or a peeler
A brilliant food-led memoir from the all-round gem, Stanley Tucci. It's a love letter to food and a life lived in the pursuit of the good things
It is as infectious as it is delicious, as funny as it is insightful. The only reason to put this book down, is to go cook and eat from it'
A delicious story of appetite, family and pasta. A serious amount of pasta. In this gloriously written memoir, the ever tasteful Stanley Tucci invites us to his table and feeds us all the good stuff
Tucci, as all the world knows by now, likes to eat and drink . . . His memoir, however, takes his passion to another level . . . The world needs more men like this
A divine celebration of food, Italy and life, this joyous memoir from the popular actor is a real treat
Moving, funny and greedy . . . If food is everything to you, you'll love it
His descriptions of the Italian food he grew up with, woven through with family stories and the recipes he's encountered on his travels, will leave you hungry - and in no doubt that this is a man who knows both how to eat and how to live
A delicious foodie memoir . . . An intimate reflection on the intersection between food and life

Have long admired the actor. Am now loving the writer. Bravo Mr Tucci, this is a wonderfully written culinary autobiography. Sobering towards the end but with the best possible outcome

As good as you'd hoped it would be

I purchased this book after seeing it written up in one of the Sunday papers. Ii was not disappointed. This really is a fabulous book. Im a great fan of Stanley Tucci as an actor but had no idea of his culinary talent at all. The recipes he gives in the book are provided with such warmth and always a great story to accompany them. It is a very touching book written about his family and the trials that a lot of us face, the passing of a loved one is hard for anyone, however he tells his story so well. An incredible man, his book so made me smile so many times. Highly recommended. Particularly as the author reads it, it couldnt be anyone else.

I picked up this audio book because I liked the series he did where he toured around Italy exploring the foods of different regions. I expected the book to be interesting and of course revolving around food but I was surprised by Tuccis level of knowledge and passion about the subject. I was also surprised by how amazing the recipes sounded that he unveiled through out the book, coming from all kinds of different sources like his mother's recipe for ragu to a recipe for a martini learned from an Italian barman. I hadn't initially considered this a recipe book of sorts but it is and with every recipe comes an associated story from Tuccis life.

What an intriguing way to tell ones life, through your experiences with food.

A life told through food

I loved this. I was already a little in love with Stanley Tucci, but don't let that put you off. The story is excellent and I have thoroughly enjoyed hearing it the intonation and wit the author intended.

I will listen to this again in the future as it felt comforting as well as funny and informative.

Highly recommended.

Best audio book for me so far
