This is an interesting enough story, well written. It's just a bit light. If it were wine I'd describe it as inoffensive.

I bought and listened to this series some time ago and have 'discovered' it afresh. I don't remember having enjoyed it as much the first time around but it has certainly got me hooked. I'm now well into the series but it was this being the first book re-awakened my interest. The performances by Stephen Thorne are absolutely spot-on and draw you into each tale. I'm not a great connoisseur of murder mysteries but I'm certainly enjoying these books (again).

Enjoyed the book but unsure of historical accuracy sometimes e.g. Old Bailey which I thought was Tudor rather than Plantagenat

This was the first book I listened to and was hooked. Stephen Thorne is a good narrator and brought Owen Archer to life.

As a fan on both Ellis Peters and CJ Sansom I was looking forward to this story and I was not disappointed. It was tightly written and very well narrated. For a change I did not find myself shouting at the speakers to correct mispronunciation of words or glaring mistakes in grammar! A thoroughly enjoyable listen, BUT, it stole my sleep!!

So good I stayed awake listening overnight!
