Am trying desperately to find a similar book.

Could not put it down

A good narration helps a far-fetched and rather silly story. Better to listen to than read, I suspect.

Overrated

Set in a recognisable London, recovering from the after blow of political upheaval. An interesting time one foot in the world of the Tudors one foot in the modern world. Wonderfully plotted story without artificial contrivance. Mr Taylor recreates a believable world occupied by mostly believable (not totally convinced by Cat) characters. I intend to read the rest in the series

A recognisable London

Brings the city and and times to life, with a story that skips along at a brisk pace, all brought together with fantastically performed narration.

Evocative, absorbing, superbly narrated

The research on the extent and details of the fire in London 1666 is remarkable and brings the situation very much alive. I confess that in a few places I found the descriptions repetitive and even unnecessary, but on the whole they are impressive. The characters are true to their time and none are above criticism, they come to life and are believable, even is sometimes irritating.
The extent of remaining purities is extremely well handled, and entirely consuming, once again bringing to life the problems and mental imbalance of the times.
Above all the storyline is engrossing, quite gripping at times, and impressively interweaving.
It is well written, thoroughly entertaining, and even illuminating regarding the historical facts.
I recommend this book.,
