Summary

Jase Mathews, a rising star at PHS, the globe’s most prestigious and largest accounting firm, is on the cusp of making partner. His latest assignment, the high stakes audit of the colossal Sharp Industries, is his golden ticket. For Jase, it’s the pinnacle of his career—until the audit results start to whisper a different story.

As Jase meticulously dissects Sharp Industries financial processes, unsettling anomalies emerge and with the help of a few trusted allies, Jase begins to unravel inconsistencies that stretch far beyond simple bookkeeping errors. What they uncover lurking within Sharp Industries’ ledgers is a tangled web of deceit so vast that it threatens to destabilize not just the company, but the very foundation of the world’s economy. Could the deceit run deeper than Sharp Industries itself? Could Jase’s own esteemed firm, PHS, be complicit in the deception?

Torn between his loyalty to PHS and the looming threat of worldwide financial collapse, Jase must decide who to trust and how far he is willing to go to expose a truth that could unravel everything.

Can Jase expose the truth and hold the guilty accountable or will the web of deceit be too much for one lone auditor to handle?

I've listened to this narrator before and he is a solid performer. But this time I felt like it was not as good as other narrations. I felt the tempo did not suit the tone of the story. It sounded too upbeat even for serious parts of the book. At first, I thought it was because the main character was too cocky, but the same tempo was kept even during scenes where the character was sombre. And it sounded like the recording was in the bathroom as it had a bit of an echo to it.

This story was told in the first person. I liked the premise as I love accounting and find the job of auditing quite fascinating. It had mystery to the story, which was nice. The ending was wrapped up neatly. If we could give 1/2 stars, I would give the story 4.5 stars just because I thought the main character was a bit annoying- even if he had a good heart.
I recommend this book and I will definitely listen to the narrator and author again.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This review is entirely of my own opinion.
