The Beauty of the End is a gripping psychological thriller from Debbie Howells, author of the bestselling Richard and Judy Book Club success, The Bones of You.

I was fourteen when I fell in love with a goddess . . .

A love he'd never forget

Ex-lawyer Noah has never forgotten his first love. When, years later, he hears that she's suspected of murder, he knows with certainty that she's innocent. With April on life-support and the evidence pointing towards her guilt, he's compelled to help her. But he's also unprepared as he's forced to confront what happened between them all those years ago.

A secret she would never reveal

April Moon had loved Noah. She never wanted to hurt him. But there was something - and someone - dark in her life which made happiness together impossible.

A family she could never forgive

Ella is a troubled teenager with her own secrets to tell. But no one will listen. What Ella knows holds the key to finding the killer. But as Noah, April and Ella's stories converge, shocking revelations come to the surface. The truth is obvious. Or so everyone believes . . .

Critic reviews

A terrific new talent. She paints with words and takes a scalpel to emotions (Peter James)
Full of twists and surprises, you'll be gripped until the end
Kept me guessing
A haunting new thriller
Debbie Howells, bestselling author of The Bones of You, showcases the superb control she has in her writing . . . weaving together a tale of both past and present in a single narrative, Howells' skills as a writer are at the forefront of this novel, making it a fantastic read
Intense and gorgeous . . . gloriously plotted and absolutely beautifully written, one of those novels where small parts of the prose make you shiver and give a real emotional pull
The characterisation here is exceptional . . . This book is quite beautifully constructed, with perfect pace - and has real emotional depth as the harrowing story of treachery and betrayal unfolds. The different threads are quite perfectly handled - this author really is a quite excellent storyteller, who handles the complicated structure with total ease, never dropping a stitch
Spectacularly written and plotted, Howells is a masterful thriller writer, so if you're a fan of the genre, you must, must put her on your list . . . Howells' whole writing style is a beautiful balancing act. It's not the beauty of the end, it's the beauty of the book in its entirety. This story is a little cracker. It explores the dark side of privilege and human nature and also how it's dangerous to cast too rosy a glow on people or memories

Jack Hawkins narration is so compelling and brings the story of April to life. I loved it and will definitely be purchasing more of Debbie Howells books and searching for books narrated by Jack.

I loved this from the opening line.
The narration is brilliant, but that’s a sign of the melodic writing style which I just loved.
Reminiscent of “One Day” in essence to me.
Anyway, I loved it, and I rarely say anything close to that about the hundreds of books I read.
You won’t regret choosing this one!
