About this listen

There is little more terrifying than those who hunt, stalk, and snatch their prey under the cloak of darkness. These hunters search not for animals, but for the touch, taste, and empowerment of human flesh. They are cannibals, vampires, and monsters, and they walk among us.

These serial killers are not mythical beasts with horns and shaggy hair. They are people living among society, going about their day-to-day activities until nightfall. They are the Dennis Rader's, the fathers, husbands, church-going members of the community.

This A-Z encyclopedia of 150 serial killers is the ideal reference audiobook. Included are the most famous true crime serial killers, like Jeffrey Dahmer, John Wayne Gacy, Richard Ramirez, and not to mention the women who kill, such as Aileen Wuornos, and Martha Rendell. There are also lesser known serial killers, covering many countries around the world, so broad is the range.

Each of the serial killer files includes information on when and how they killed the victims, the background of each killer, or the suspects in some cases, such as the Zodiac killer, their trials and punishments. For some there are chilling quotes by the killers themselves. The Big Book of Serial Killers is an easy-to-follow collection of information on the world's most heinous murderers.

I'm sure as a book this is an interesting read, as an audiobook however it's hard going. The book is read by someone who clearly is just doing his job, he lacks any emotional connection to the subject matter and is dull. Clearly he made an effort with the pronunciation of the Chinese locations yet didn't bother to learn how to pronounce Gloucestershire or other English locations making it gratingly poor to listen to.

Struggled with the monotone voice

This book has so much details on serial killers. Sometimes it is difficult to understand the mindset behind the grevious evil perpetrated by these twisted folks, however, listening to the details of their lives sometimes put everything into perspective. This kind of closure (not the best words, but close. Nothing can rationalize the twisted nature of serial killers!) is what this book offers by shedding light on some intricate details about the serial killers, their victims, and the role of the law enforcement agencies.
I think the narrator decided to use a slightly creepy tone to capture the darkness of the stories being told, and it was a good choice in my opinion.
Overall, this book is intriguing, engaging, and tells of some of the craziness that still exists in this world.

I received this book as a free review copy, and this is my unbiased opinion about it.

Creepy, yet thrilling!

This audiobook is as captivating as it is chilling. But then, the stories of serial killers are usually of that sort. This book details the profile of some of the most notorious predatory humans, their activities, victims, lair/tactics, etc. Be sure, the stories here are not for the faint-hearted.
However, this book is excellent for those who can handle their scary stories, and also love True Crime.

A real thriller

This book contains some really high profile serial killers stories. The details go as far as the background of these twisted criminals, which gives a hint of the possible motivation for such heinous crimes. I think the narrator also decided to use a slightly tense tone to create suspense and it makes the book even more chilling to listen to. Some of the stories presented would really astound some people, but then, that's what an encyclopedia on serial killers should deliver. Great content.

P.S. I received a free copy of this audiobook and I have left this review as a true evaluation of this book.
