About this listen

Gavin Guile is dying.

He'd thought he had five years left - now he's got less than one. With fifty thousand refugees, a bastard son and an ex-fiancée who may have learned his darkest secret, Gavin's got problems on every side. As he loses control of his magic, all magic is running wild, threatening to destroy the Seven Satrapies. The old gods are being reborn. Their army of color wights is unstoppable, and the only salvation may be the brother whose freedom and life Gavin stole sixteen years ago.©2012 Brent Weeks

Critic reviews

Weeks has truly cemented his place among the great epic fantasy writers of our time
Brent Weeks is so good it's starting to tick me off
One of the best examples of modern fantasy that I've read
Places Brent Weeks on comfortable footing beside contemporaries like Brandon Sanderson and Joe Abercrombie, if not a step above

I enjoyed this second installment in the series even more than the first one. It’s like a more vulgar Harry Potter. Great fun!

Even better than the first one

It's unusual I'll want to listen to an audiobook outside of long journeys, but this has held me entranced for days.

The narrator is also significantly better than the pretty awfully chosen surfer-dude-esque guy who did the previous book.

Gripping
