About this listen

Of course it was love for my children, love for my son that caused me to act as I did. It was a lapse of judgment. If I could have foreseen the rippling aftershocks that followed I would have acted differently, but by the time I realised the extent of the consequences, it was too late....

The MacBrides have always gone to Far Barn in Devon for Bonfire Night, but this year everything is different. Lydia, the matriarch, is dead; Sophie, the eldest daughter, is desperately trying to repair a crumbling marriage; and Felix, the youngest of the family, has brought a girlfriend with him for the first time. The girl, Kerry, seems odd in a way nobody can quite put their finger on - but when they leave her looking after Sophie's baby daughter, and return to find both Kerry and the baby gone, they are forced to ask themselves if they have allowed a cuckoo into their nest....

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Definitely, It is the best audible book I have listened to so far.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Burning Air?

A few times during the book when things fell into place, twists I had not anticipated.

Which character – as performed by Candida Gubbins – was your favourite?

Probably Darcy, although she performed them all well.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The senseless, life changing attack on Felix.

Any additional comments?

From reviews I had read before listening I knew that Darcy was a boy and not a girl. If I had not known this, I would have probably started off believing him to be a girl too.

Enthralling

One of my all time favourites! Beautifully written and crafted. Characters are very well developed and Erin Kelly shows the flaws and potential for good and evil in people.
Thoroughly enjoyed!

Superb Story

Really enjoyed this book, lots of twists and turns, maybe a bit far fetched in places, particularly Darcy’s
transformation, from lost boy, into savvy, successful man, but it is fiction after all! I couldn’t wait to see what happened next, the different characters narration was very well done. I have recommended to friends

A very good read

This is a very enjoyable read. It is basically one mans vendetta against another family who are well to do. Good story well read however my only complaint is that the main character is called Darcy and I assumed that this was a female until about half way through the story when I discovered that it is in fact a male. I don't know if this is intentional or not but bear this in mind if you happen to choose this book.

Any additional comments?

I thought this book was very well written, fast paced dealing with just the story and not being over descriptive about characters and places it goes back and forwards if that makes sense but its easy to keep up with because there are definate markers (aparently this seems to be the authors style as I noticed another reviewer make this comment on another of her books. Thought this would make a pretty good tv drama too (didnt realize she was the author of the brilliant tv drama broadchurch) the only two criticisims I would add is firstly the narration wasnt that brilliant and the 'voice' of the character kerry really grated on me I know she was supposed to be a bit of an air head but the narrator made her sound simple! secondly I had hoped the final revelation had been a bit more well 'bad' for want of a better word still all in all a great book....it must have been because I cleaned the house and did my ironing whilst listening to it and got the work done in no time at all!

very good
