Summary

Paul Tremblay, critically acclaimed author of Disappearance at Devil's Rock and A Head Full of Ghosts, adds an inventive twist to the home invasion horror story in a heart-palpitating novel of psychological suspense.

Seven-year-old Wen and her parents, Eric and Andrew, are vacationing at a remote cabin on a quiet New Hampshire lake. Their closest neighbours are more than two miles in either direction along a rutted dirt road.

One afternoon, as Wen catches grasshoppers in the front yard, a stranger unexpectedly appears in the driveway. Thus begins an unbearably tense, gripping tale of paranoia, sacrifice, apocalypse and survival that escalates to a shattering conclusion, one in which the fate of a loving family and quite possibly all of humanity are entwined.

The Cabin at the End of the World is a masterpiece of terror and suspense from the fantastically fertile imagination of Paul Tremblay.

Too much exposition. Disappointing ending. Read in an odd iambic pentameter way. I didn't enjoy this for the same reason I don't enjoy Stephen King. Too much time setting the scene with content that could make a great short story not a novel.

Great if you like Stephen king.

Saw a clip on you tube for the film and it looked interesting.

got the book but i’d give it 3/10 and im afraid the narration was not for me.

Not the worst book but narrator not for me

Yes, the narration sounds utterly awful initially and put me off buying the title for a long time but eventually I took the plunge. I sped it up just a little until it sounded more normal and less monotone. I’ve experienced this with a couple of other books and it really does help. I enjoyed the storyline, I was keen to listen to it before seeing the movie.

Speed up the narration to make it bearable!

This is a fantastic story and one we're all probably familiar with told in a modern way/setting that makes it more relatable.

The narration however, is abysmal. It's slow and in places I'm sure there are glaring mistakes in the words used. I don't know if English isn't the speakers first language but the intonation is bizarre, verging on weird. I hope that it'd start to add something to the story but it's as if the narrator is trying to steal the limelight from the story itself with this obnoxious performance.

The fact most of my review is about the narration and not the story tells you all you need to know about this audio version.

The story is superb, buy the physical book or even watch the film, that's great too.

Why is this being Narated by AI? Its woeful...!!!

A tense home invasion narrative with hints of the metaphysical turns into an exploration of the division in America between the liberal elites and the God-fearing right: what are people willing to do in the name of belief? Are their beliefs the real motive for what they do or do other issues such as prejudice come into play? How easily do we play Chicken Little and start heralding the end times? How quickly do we betray our principals?

The narrator here is awfully robotic.

A Horror for the modern age
